Kyoto rewards slower travel. In just two days, you can still experience a meaningful mix of history, food, and quiet neighborhoods.
Day 1 — East Kyoto classics
- Start early at Fushimi Inari Taisha before the crowds.
- Move toward Kiyomizu-dera and walk through Sannenzaka/Ninenzaka.
- Take a late lunch in Gion and explore side streets on foot.
- End the day with a riverside walk near Pontochō.
Day 2 — Arashiyama + local rhythm
- Visit the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove early morning.
- Stop at Tenryū-ji and nearby garden cafes.
- Spend the afternoon in a neighborhood tea house.
- Sunset at Kamo River with a simple takeaway dinner.
Practical notes
- Use an IC transit card for stress-free movement.
- Start major spots before 8 AM.
- Keep one meal unplanned; local finds are often the best.
- Comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable.
